Finally a launch date

September 29th, 2011

We are pleased to announce that our new website www.earthpyramid.org will be launched on 11/11/11. Its been a long time coming but delays with the promotional video and other things have pushed back our previous deadlines . Bradford University has done a great job with the video and we have some fantastic people participating in it.This video will be on the main page of the new website and will really help people to understand what the venture is about and show how our expert supporters view it. With only around 6 weeks to go its an incredibly busy time here but as the end is nearly in sight our enthusiasm is at an all time high and we cant wait to see the end result. We will be filming the launch for the www.onedayonearth.org project and it will be available on there website at some point in 2012.We created a video for last years event on 10/10/10 and they were keen for us to participate this year which is the reason we decided on our launch date. Our twitter account@earthpyramid will have regular updates of our progress and this blog will also follow our last few weeks as the leedspyramid.

Good Progress.

August 1st, 2011

We are now well into 2011 and we have finally set a date for the new website launch. If all things go as planned it will be on Monday the 12th of September. To coincide with the launch we will also be sending out another letter to all the world leaders and the video about the venture that Bradford University is currently working in will also be premiered. The video is going incredibly well and we have some great people involved so this is something we are very exited about. The University is also working on some computer graphics for us and all this work should enable us to communicate the projects aims on a global scale. Once again we appreciate everyone’s patience and will let you know of new developments as they happen.

A lot of hard work.

March 17th, 2011

Its been a good few weeks since the blog was updated and the reason for this is because its been an incredibly busy couple of months. Most of our efforts have gone into the planned name change of the project and as its such an important step we want to make sure that we have every aspect covered. Something we are  very exited about is the creation of a short video that explains the project and its aims. A picture tells a thousand words and we hope that this video will be a great way to put across the many aspects of the venture in a way that will be easily understood.

We are also looking at the social media side of the project and with the name change to the Earth Pyramid all these resources will be utilised. Its taking a mammoth effort but things are slowly coming together and we hope to have things up and running within the next few months. I know this this may not be the most exiting phase of the project but this input will have a great effect on driving things forward and ensuring the success of the endeavour.Bear with us,It will be worth the wait!

2010 round up and thoughts on 2011

January 3rd, 2011

2010 has been an interesting year for us and the project. Its seen another 4 countries agree to participate in the project(We now have 19 in total),and4 more want us to keep them informed of our progress(that’s 6 in total) .We have also started the long process of organising the global vote for schools and we currently have 9 countries represented in this. We were also honoured to receive the support of 2 Nobel peace laureates when we received a letter of support from Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and met President Jose Ramos Horta of East Timor at Bradford university’s Peace Jam event back in March. The fact that they have seen enough in our project to lend their support means a great deal.

Creating the pyramid itself is  a massive part of the project and something that we have been putting a lot of work into this year. We have been contacting a lot of people and organisations who are involved with pyramid research and are staring to gain some good support for this part of the project. As the structure needs to be created with its “carbon footprint” in mind we have also been looking into “Green” concretes and Geo polymers that could be used during construction. Creating the pyramid using a mixture of new and ancient techniques would certainly make the build a fascinating event and we hope that this new year will see support for this grow.

Our contributors section of the website http://www.leedspyramid.com/contributors.html is  growing and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who have helped us throughout the year and added there expertise to the project. The profile of the project is starting to grow on Google and alot of this is due to the support of our contributors .

time capsule

The image above is a prototype of one of the smaller time capsules. These smaller time capsules will be handed out to indigenous peoples, organisations, families and other randomly selected groups that would like to be a part of the project. We also intend to give 1 to every school who participates in the global vote part of the project. At some point in the year we hope to have a prototype of 1 of the 3 boxes that will be given to the governments of the world . You may notice that the plaque on the picture above says “Earth Pyramid” and this is because during the course of this year we will be changing the name of the project over to this new website. further details of this will be available as we get closer to the change over.

The project has been running for nearly 2 years now and we are amazed by just how far things have evolved. There have been setbacks along the way but considering the scale of the venture and the many aspects of it we are more than pleased with the results so far. This year we hope that the pyramid design side of the project will start to take on a life of its own and we will be putting a lot of effort into the global vote.Gaining the participation of countries is still our main focus and we hope that another 2 letters will be sent out to every government this year. We would like thank all the governments currently participating for there continued support and we will do our best to make sure that this year continuous as the others have left off.

Prototypes

November 18th, 2010

stone blocks and time capsuleAs the project is progressing we are starting get some models and prototypes made for the various aspects of the project.  We have created a pyramid block to give people a sense of the scale of the project and the work that will go into creating it. The main part of the block is 1 meter cubed and has a 55 degree angle cut into the face of it.The weight of this 1 piece of stone will be about 2.2 tons depending on the type of stone used. A few years ago an attempt was made to create a small pyramid and this was called the NOVA project. This project highlighted the many difficulties that building a large structure like this would present using ancient methods but using a mixture of old and new techniques would make the construction process of  the Leeds Pyramid a fascinating educational event. Many people involved with pyramid research are now lending their support to the project and we hope that there input will help us to maximise the ventures potential.

We are continuing to contact schools regarding the global vote and although its taking a lot of effort, things are going well. This is our main focus of the project at this stage and every effort is being made to promote this world wide event.A local language school is now helping with translating the global vote page on the website and this should help things along. The forth letter to every government in the world will now go out early in the new year and we will have plenty of new things to tell them about the projects development.

Moving forward.

October 8th, 2010

The past few weeks have been extremely busy but very productive. We are still contacting schools to participate in the global vote and are in the process of translating our invitation into the many languages that exist around the world. We are starting to use a combination of e mails and letters for this part of the project and by looking at the revolver map on the website we can see that they are starting to get through. Our project is now on the “one day on earth “website on the causes page under education. The one day on earth project aims to document a day in the life of our planet on 10.10.10 and get the world working together to participate in this unique event. The success of this project has been a great precedent for what can be achieved with our efforts. Our patrons Professor John Guillebaud  and David Stone are currently writing there respective pieces for our patrons page and we hope to have them on over the next few weeks. With meetings coming up in this next month we hope to have a great deal more news to tell you soon.

Going well.

September 22nd, 2010

Its taking a lot of work but our invitation for schools to participate in the global vote is starting to filter through to the correct people. 4 schools have agreed to participate so far and we are in contact with several others around the world. The details of the vote are now on the website and as  schools agree to take part we are adding their details to the participating schools page.We know that not every school we contact will  want to be involved but for the ones that do we hope they will enjoy being part of this unique project.

Starting a new phase.

September 5th, 2010

We have finally started to contact schools around the world to ask them if they would like to participate in the global vote for where the structure should be built. As with getting governments to participate we don’t expect this to be easy but we hope that they will enjoy taking part in this global experiment. We are adding a separate page to the website that will name the school in each country that is participating and as things progress we will add more information about the vote itself. On the website we are also adding a links page and a revolver map. There will be people adding to our contributors page over the coming weeks with there thoughts about the project and the areas of expertise that they have are many and varied. We are also pleased to announce that Professor John Guillebaud and David Stone MBE have agreed to become patrons for the project.John is an emeritus professor of family planning and reproductive health who is a passionate environmentalist and his experience and knowledge will be a great asset to the venture.David has recently returned from the Para Cycling world championships where he retained his world title and has been a great supporter of ours from the start of the project. Both our patrons will be  contributing more as the project progresses and we are proud to have their support.

Another positive response

August 13th, 2010

We have recently received a letter through from the Prime Minister of Liechtenstein. Its a very encouraging and positive letter and he has asked us to contact him again as the project progresses. The encouragement that we have received from all the countries that have replied means a great deal.Their faith in what we are attempting is a driving force behind the project.

Withe so many different aspects to the project the organisational side of it has been quite a challenge but we are starting to find our rhythm with it all.Apart from getting countries and overseas territories to participate we are also working gaining the support of organisations involved with Peace, Environmental Issues, Indigenous Issues and education as the project covers all these areas and more. Its taking a lot of effort but we are slowly forging contacts in these areas and our project is starting to appear across the web. Getting people discussing the possibilities of the venture and the benefits of its creation will play a big part in the projects success. We have lived with this endeavor for 15 months now and the scale of it doesnt get any smaller but neither is our determination to make it succeed. The Global vote for where the structure should be built is taking a lot more effort than we first thought.Finding 1 school in every country is proving a great challenge even with the assistance of the Internet but that is still ongoing and an important part of the project. If you have followed the project from the start we hope you have enjoyed the journey so far and as new events occur we keep you informed.

Missing blog

July 20th, 2010

For some reason the blog from the past 2 months seems to  have disappeared somewhere in the system so i will update all the events in this blog while we try to sort the problem.Since the third letter went out the Cayman Islands have replied and said they would like to participate. The letter they sent us was very encouraging and gave the project a great boost. We have also heard from the Latvian government and the government of Northern Ireland. They have both expressed interest in the project and asked us to contact them again as the project progresses. At this stage of the project these replies are very important to us because it leaves the door open for future involvement. With 19 countries and overseas territories wishing to participate and a further 5 countries we have to contact as the project progresses things are going very well.

We have recently been in contact with Professor John Guillebaud, the originator of the “Eco Time capsule”project. After initial discussions we hope to bring you further details on his project that started in 1994 and the creation of a link between the two projects. Its encouraging for us to know that the reasons we are attempting our venture have already proved to be successful with his.
