The Chamber
At the base of the pyramid we hope to create a chamber that is 20m x 20m x 10m high and can hold about 1.7 billion cards. The idea is to get every child in the world to fill out a business card sized piece of paper with their name and anything else they would like to say, then seal them all in to the chamber for 1,000 years. We hope that by doing this all the world’s children, rich or poor will feel like they are all connected and part of something special .Also when the time capsule is opened the thoughts that they have written down will be studied by a new generation. We hope to contact as many schools as we can to try and get them interested in the idea. Then one school in every country will be chosen to vote on where in the world the pyramid should be built. By doing this we hope that children will start looking into different countries and their problems then they can decide where the structure could do the most good. This generation will be at the frontline of the fight to save our planet so to capture their imagination and get them all working together on a project like this can only be a good thing. It will also give them a sense that their opinions and views matter and can be heard in generations to come.
A dedicated website will be created at www.leedspyramid.net and run by students with their input and ideas. Hopefully they can harness the power of modern technology to get word of the project out in to the world. As we are not asking for anything financial or time consuming we hope the response will be very good. The cards themselves can be bundled into school packages and when the time capsule is eventually opened each bundle can be returned to its original school. The great, great, great x40 grandchildren of our generation will be able to study the thoughts of our children today. The large box that will be sent to a selected school in every country will give a chance to provide a more comprehensive outlook of how children feel about our world today.
The cards will be made out of acid free paper and the ink will be a special type that is designed to last for centuries. The chamber will be made out of stainless steel and when full of cards it will be filled with nitrogen and sealed. This information has been gathered from the internet but as the project progresses more detailed and accurate information will be substituted.
