The Project LettersThe Ward Family

We always thought the project would be a great way to get the world together for a positive reason but we also know that to achieve this it will take a lot of hard work .We decided the best way to find out if the world liked the idea would be to write to every government in the world and ask them if they would like to contribute to the project. As we only have a very small voice in the world we knew the chance of our letters getting through to the correct people would be fairly slim but as we are only asking for a small commitment we hope people will agree to take part. As word of our project spreads we hope that governments will see that by agreeing to participate we can create something unique and inspiring in the world with each country having an equal contribution. Below are the letters that we have been sending to all the countries in the world. We intend keep going until we get everyone involved.

The First Letter

Dear

Firstly may we apologise if we have got any details on the addresses wrong. We looked on the internet for the information and tried to get it as accurate as we could.

We are the Ward Family from Leeds and we are trying to build a giant time capsule that will be sealed for 1,000 years.  It’s kind of ambitious but we think it would be great if we could get it to happen. We have written to every country in the world (262 according to Google) at once, and are hoping that everyone will agree to fill a box that we will send you with things about your country. We will send 3 boxes in total. One for you, one for a school in your country and one for a person of your choice. If we can get everyone to put a box in it will hopefully create a snapshot in time of our planet as it is today. We have started a website so you can see how the capsule is coming along, and when time is near we will send your boxes out to you. Please understand that we do not want any money from you as we are trying to get funding from other sources. At this stage just confirmation that you will be prepared to fill a box will be great.

Kind regards

The Second Letter

Lets capture the best of today for future generations

Dear

Last month we wrote to you outlining our ambitious project to build a pyramid in the UK, and to allow every country across the World to be a part of it!    We understand you are very busy people and probably get 100’s of letters a day, but we’re committed to this project and wanted to give you a second chance to get involved!
We are the Ward family from Leeds and during an evening meal one night we came up with our idea. It started off small but has developed and grown into the venture outlined in the following letter. We are lucky to have the support of Family Friend, David Stone(pictured above). David is a double gold medallist from the Beijing Paralympics and a real inspiration as to what can be achieved if you truly believe in what you’re doing.

Our ambitious aim is to build a giant time capsule in the shape of a pyramid that every country on the planet (262 according to Google!) can be a part of through providing capsules. We hope it will be a celebration of our diverse planet today, encouraging people of all races, ages and walks of life to contribute time capsules to the pyramid.  We hope it will encourage those involved to think about our impact on the planet and each other. Once the pyramid is complete, it will be sealed for hopefully 1000 years and provide future generations an archive of our world as it was in the 21st century.  This is not for profit; we are not asking for any money. What we are trying to do is encourage people to get involved and be a part of something unique and inspiring!

We have written to every country in the world, each country that would like to be involved in the project will receive three time capsule boxes.

  1. A time capsule for the country.
  2. A time capsule for a school in the country.
  3. A time capsule for an individual or family from the country.

After our first letter, we have received support from several countries. These countries include Jersey, Wales, Cyprus, Anguilla, Niue and Gibraltar. The University of Bradford’s Polymer Department has also lent their support to the project.
We have started a website so you can see how the project is moving forward.  When ready, we would send out the three capsules to you to then be a part of the pyramid. Even though the capsules will be in the Pyramid they will still belong to you and our hope would be that when opened in a 1,000 years – they would be returned to you!
With one small gesture from every country, we can create something positive and inspiring in the world for future generations.
Please understand that we do not want any money from you as we are trying to get funding from other sources.  At this stage we are only asking for confirmation that your country would be prepared to be fill the time capsule boxes.
Thank you for taking the time to read our letter and we very much look forward to hearing from you!

Kind regards
